Mercy

Begin with a vision

"a vision of mutual service, mutual responsibility, and peaceable neighborliness... a

peace movement, a love movement, a joy movement, a justice movement, an

integrity movement, an aliveness movement." -- Richard Rohr

You, being part of us, has made a huge impact on our students and on our community as a whole. One example is the story of Mercy.

Mercy started at Chikumbuso in Kindergarten in 2005. In 2008, a donor visited our community center and committed to her sponsorship. What started as a sponsorship to get her through elementary school turned into a partnership between Mercy and her sponsor that took her through middle and high school and into college. Thanks to her incredible sponsor and Mercy’s hard work she finished her degree in primary school teaching at Fairview College of Education. Today Mercy teaches first grade at Chikumbuso! Her hope is to motivate current Chikumbuso students to work hard as she shares her personal story with them.

Mercy's story so perfectly reflects the vision we had for Chikumbuso when we began so many years ago, a vision of "mutual service, mutual responsibility, and peaceable neighborliness". We dreamed of a community that supported each other, a community of mutual aid and kindness, where each feels responsible for the other and for the whole. Being able to welcome Mercy back to our community as a leader and inspiration outpaces even our wildest dreams for her and our

project.

The Impact of your Gifts

And while Mercy deserves so much celebration for her hard work and her commitment to giving back, none of this would be possible without her sponsor - there by her side every step of her journey. 2008 to 20018 - a decade of "mutual service and mutual responsibility"! We are so grateful. Thanks to each of you, our donors and sponsors, our bag buyers and cheerleaders, we have created "a peace movement, a love movement, a joy movement, a justice movement, an integrity movement, an aliveness movement" that ripples across Ng'ombe and all of us.
