Esther came to Chikumbuso bone thin, rejected and desperate for change.
Families can sometime be cruel comforters. When Esther’s husband passed away, the family took her home and possessions and relegated her to living in a shack behind the house. No one would eat with her and she watched her life crumble as her son, Kelvin, began to show signs of sickness.
At Chikumbuso, Esther was able to work and earn money to get out of that situation, but more importantly, she found the change she really needed – loving community for both herself and Kelvin.
Now Esther’s extended family often looks to her for strength and help in their troubles – a winning situation for all.
